Kevin's Rate Growing Post

Ratio - the relation between two similar magnitudes with respect to the number of times the first contains the second: the ratio of 5 to 2, written 5:2 or 5/2.

Rate - a comparison of two quantities measured in different units

What is the difference between ratio and rate?
The difference between ratio and rate are that rate compares 2 different units and ratio compares 2 of the same units .

Page 60 . Question 6

Gina earns $78.00 for working 6 h.
Asad makes $192.50 after working
14 h. Determine each person’s unit
rate of pay. Who has a greater hourly
rate of pay?

Gina - For Gina I did $78.00 divided by 6 because in 6 hours she made $78.00 so I $13.00 for 1 hour.
$13.00/hour
Asad - For Asad I did $192.50 divided by 14 because in 14 he made $192.50 so after I did $192.50 divided by 14 I got $13.75.
$13.75/hour
So Asad makes more money per hour .

Page 61 . Question 11

Shannon buys 12 granola bars for $9.96.
a) Determine the price per bar. Give your
answer in dollars and cents.
b) Explain whether your answer in part a)
is a ratio or a rate.

a)The first thing I did was make a ratio table with the $ on the left side of it and on the right side I had the bars . So in the ratio table I did $9.96 dollars divided by 12 because 12 bars is $9.96 and got $0.83 , so that means 1 bar is $0.83 .

$0.83/bar

b)Its a rate !
