The ratio of the width to the length on a Canadian flag is 1:2.

a) The flag on the cover of an atlas is 12 cm wide, what is it's length?
The length of the flag on the cover of the atlas would be 24 cm long because on the real Canadian flag the width is half of the length so the same would occur here and 12 is half of 24 and 12 is the width and 24 is the length.



b)A large flag outside a Calgary school is 3 meters in length, what is its width?
The width of the flag would be 1.5 meters because again the width is half the length and the length is 3 meters and half of 3 is 1.5 meters wide.

Karra's Rate growing Post

Ratio- A ratio is 2 or more quantitees that are compared in the same units.

Rate - A rate is 2 quantities that are compared in diffrent units.


One diffrence i think is that a ratop compares 2 things in the same unites and a rate is compared in 2 things in diffrent units.

a) A Orca swims 110 km in 2 hrs.



Answer: You can use a ratio table but i wont draw one. So for this question you have to divide 110 by 2 that =55. So our unit rate would be 55 km/hr.



b) A Canada goose flies 800 km in 12.5 hrs.



Answer: You divide 800 by 12.5 which =64 km/hr.

2. Trevor rode his mountain bike in 84 km in 3 h. Jillian rode 70 km in 2.5 hrs. Who is the faster cyclist? How do you know?

They are both the same.How I know is because I..

calculated 3 divided by 3 to get 1. If you do one thing to one side you have to do it to the other. So I divided 3 by 84 and got 28.

on the other ratio table I divided 2.5 by 2.5 to get 1. Since I did it to one side I have to do it to the other. So I divided 2.5 by 70 and got 28.

1)1.5 divided by 4 =o.375 multiply by 10 to get 3.75

My three question's are ..

1) If I double the amount of crayons I have then what will the ratio of Blue, Red, Green to all be.

2) What would the percent be of the ratio 7 : 140.

3) What is the decimal answer for 9 : 58.

What Did you get wrong on the Test.. How can you improve...


1) Most of my faults were because i did not convert the ratios to there lowest terms.

The reason why i had trouble with this was because Mr.Harbeck told us to only convert it to lowest terms if the question said to and because of that I did not convert it unless it said to.

2) The only question i had a real problem's with was # 12, 13, and 14.

In a group of 84 students surveyed, the ratio of student preferenceis seven oatmeal eaters to four granola eaters to three toasted O eaters.

12. Of the 84 students, how many prefur oatmeal.

13. Of the 84students, how many prefur granola.

14. what percent ( to one decimal place ) of the group prefurs Toasted O's .

sorry its late. this is the second part to bob, on the test.

I got question 5 wrong:
Eric is able to stop 85% of the shots on goal. If he faces 27 shots on goal, how many goals would likely be scored on him?
a.3 b.4 c.9 d.15
To be honest at the time I had no idea what the answer was or how to get the answer. I guessed what the answer was I guessed c.9.
Later on at class I found out the answer and how to get it:
you just have to make a ratio table:



Another mistake I made was question 16:
You have a bag with one white ball, six red balls, eight green balls, and three purple balls. In lowest terms, what is the ratio of red balls to the whole bag of balls?
I put: 6:18 6÷6, 18÷6 the answer is 1:3. My mistake was that I didn't put a word ratio, the proper way would be:
red:total
1:3
I'll remember to put a word ratio next time.
here are questions I redid:

1-eric is able to stop the ball 80% of the shots on goal. if he faces 24 shots on goal, how many goals would likely go in?
I rounded the answer and it is 19

2-you have a bag with 3blue marbles, 4 green marbles and 7 purple marbles. what is the ratio for green marbles to total marbles.

- There are 96 adults in all, and 36 of them are less than 150 cm tall, so to find how much people are taller you have to ( 96-36=60) and there you have it. There are 60 adults taller than 150 cm tall

We need to write a certain number of ratios about this picture.

First we need to make 3 Part to Part Patios

Now heres how to make an equivalent ratio.
An equivalent ratio is a fraction that represents the the same ratio but in a simplified or multiplied form for example
6 : 6 can be represented as 3 : 3 or 12 : 12 or even as high as 6000 : 6000 as long as the amount the ratio represents does not change and it is a multiple or denominator of the original ratio for example 6 : 6 cannot be represented as 12 : 13

And I'm almost done I just have to give you guys 3 questions for you and me to answer in the comments .
1. Create 2 ratios involving consonants.
2. Create and equivalent ratio for the ratio 52 : 70 (but try not to put the same one as someone else)
3. What is the ratio of Red Letters, Blue Letters, to Total?

I didn't read the questions properly and missed complete portions of the question, for example I missed the words "In lowest Terms" at least twice.
I will remember what to do on future tests by underlining importent parts of the questions and by studying harder.

You can find percent by converting the decimal. Every whole number in the decimal equals 100%. every tenth equals 10%, and every hundredth equals 1%.If the decimal has a number less then one hundredth, you have to round to the nearest hundredth.

Some mistakes on my test:


For question 17, I said that there was no equivalent scored by to scored against ratio. I thought this because none of the ratios could be simplified to become equivalent. I was wrong because if you divide 10 and 8, you get the same answer as 115 and 92. When you divide equivalent ratios, you get the same answer. I will remember to divide ratios to find out if they are equivalent to other ratios.

An equivalent ratio is a ratio written in a lower term or a higher term.
To get a lower term you have to divide the numbers by any same number that will equal a whole number. To get a higher term you have to multiply the numbers by any same number. Example:

lower term 4:12= 2:6 I divided both numbers by 2.
higher term 4:12= 12:36 I multiplied both numbers by 3.

Equivalent Ratios are created by multiplying or dividing each part of the ratio by the same number.
For example: 2:3 = 6:9
I got this answer by multiplying each part of the original ratio by 3, then recording my outcome.
2 x 3 = 6
3 x 3 = 9

In the same way, this number can be simplified. By using the same number, but different operation.
6 divided by 3 = 2
9 divided by 3 = 3

*This is also how you know you did an equivalent fraction correctly*.

Here are the mistakes I made on my test: (Sorry Mr. Harbeck!)
1) Question #8: A picture frame has a width to length ratio of 5:7. If the width of the photo is 9 cm, the length of the photo is...
a) 11cm
b) 12.6cm
c) 14cm
d) 16cm
The correct answer is b. Because if you divide 5 by 7 you get o.71 and if you divide 9 by 12.6 you get o.71. Therefore they are equivalent ratios.

The correct answer is 50% because the sum of all of the phones is 288. If you divide that number by 2 you get 144. 288=100% 288/2=144 100/2=50.
3) Question #14: In a group of 84 students surveyed, the ratio of student preference is seven oatmeal eaters to four granola eaters to three toasted O eaters.
What percent (to one decimal place) of the group prefers toasted O's?
The correct answer is 28%. Because the amount of students who like toasted O's is 18. 84/18=4.67. 4.67 x 6=28.o2. (Rounded to one decimal place is 28.) I multiplied 4.67 by 6 because in order to get 18 students I had to multiply the simplified number of toasted O's eaters by 6.
An example of the wrong answer would be 15.1%. (That's what I put). Right now, I'm not really sure how I got that answer, but I will remember for future tests to do the right thing by reading the question more carefully.
Here are 2 questions to get your brains going! (They are from the test but use different numbers).
Eric is able to stop 58% of the shots on goal. If he faces 30 shots on goal, how many goals would likely be scored on him?
A change purse contains 5 loonies, 12 quarters, 15 dimes, 23 nickles and 45 pennies, (it's a big change purse). Compare pennies to dimes using a ratio. (Express in lowest terms).

Some of the mistakes I made on the test were Question #18.
The question was...
In a student election Carol gets 60% of the voted. If there were 485 votes cast, how many votes did carol get.
My answer was this.
289/485=(0.595)876288
0.595 x 100=59.5
59.(5)rounded up=60
carol got 289 votes
My mistake was forgetting to use a table ratio.
I will remeber that when you get a percentage question you should use a ratio table.

Well the first mistake I made was that I didn't go over my work after I finished it .
The second mistake I made was that I just guessed on the one for food . ( 12,13,14)
The third mistake I made was that I did number 16 wrong because I put the wrong numbers and I didn't put a word ratio .

To make 9:3 into a equivalent ratio, you would have to divide 9 by 3 and then divide three by three. Your ratio will then be 3:1.

3:12 is 25% and that as a decimal is 0.25.
As a fraction is can be shown as 3/12.

One of my mistakes was not putting the ratios in lowest Terms. For example:
A normal deck of playing cards has 52 cards in four suits (clubs, diamond,spades, hearts) of 13 cards each. Two suits are black and the other two are red. The ratio of red cards to the whole deck is: a)1:1 b)1:2 c)2:3 d)2:4
I was supposed to put my answer in lowest terms but I forgot to do that and then I got the question wrong. But now I know that even though sometimes in the question it won't say to put it in lowest terms, but I'll always remember to do it anyways.
Another one of my mistakes was that I forgot that if the numbers in a three part ratio aren't divisible by the same number than you can't break them down into lowest terms. For example:
A stable has 39 horses available for trail rides. Of these horses, 26 horses are all brown, 8 are mainly white and the rest are black. Express in lowest terms the ratio of brown horses to mainly white horses to black horses.
a)13:4:2 b)13:4:5 c)26:8:5 d) 39:26:8
This question couldn't be put in lowest terms because all only two out of three numbers were divisible by the same number , but I didn't realize that until I got my test back.
My third mistake was that I guessed without checking over my answer. For example:

I got this question wrong because I didn't take the time to add up all the numbers to find out the total. When I saw Motorola had 144, I assumed it was 77%.
Two questions that gave me difficulty:

2. In a group of 100 students surveyed, the ratio of students preference is 5 oatmeal eaters, 3 granola eaters, and 2 Toasted O eaters.
Of the 100 students how many prefer oatmeal?
How many prefer Granola?
What is the percentage of students that prefer Toasted O's?
