Warren's 2 Minutes 2 Make a Difference Reflection

Please reflect and talk about the changes you made between the first and final cut of your movie. Were the student comments helpful in making your final cut better?
First of all, I would just like to say that our first video wasn't really what we expected it to be, because we thought that we didn't put enough effort in it at all. To me personally, I think everything was really bad about it except for the sound. The voices were horrible and I thought that it really wasn't a movie. So what we've done was gone to Warren's house, and we actually
tried to make a better video. We changed everything such as the pictures, the format of our 1st video, and we also took out our voices because we didn't really know how to put voices into it because the first one just didn't work well. To be totally honest, I am a little disappointed in myself, because I feel that I didn't work to the best of my ability for this HUGE project and I am totally never going to make that mistake again!

If you did not find an expert tell us why you were unsuccessful. Be honest.
Unfortunately, my group and weren't able to get hold of a expert on child labor in chocolate factories because none of them responded. We did our best to try and find one, we searched it up on Google, we sent many emails too as much experts as possible, but nothing. Our group also planned on asking our parents for their help, and let us know if they knew anyone who had enough experience.

What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project. What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?
I think that one of my greatest successes is learning how to edit and create movies on Windows Movie Maker.
It was easy once I got the hang of it and I also learned how some chocolate is made by kids that are forced to work and don't get paid much for their salary. A skill that I will take along with me in the future and use is the skill of using Windows Movie Maker because that would come in handy when I do another video project.

What frustrated you during the movie making process? What strategies did you use to become successful?
What frustrated me was how long it took to figure out how to use Windows Movie Maker but in the end we figured out how to use it and finished the movie. It also frustrated me how we couldn't find and expert on child slavery that we could interview. We did look for experts and we emailed them, but none of them responded. Overall, I think that it is best to stay calm instead of freaking out because if we freak out, we start to forget about the things we could still do. That is how I became successful.

Why is the 2 Minutes project important to Grade 8 Students?
I think thatthe 2 minutes project was important for us grade 8 students because it teaches us and educates us about the other things in life. The things we don't notice that need the most help ever. Things like child slavery in chocolate factories. Not much people think about how it affects their lives and the lives of the children who are working. So, making a video is showing other people that there are other things that need to be noticed and we can't be selfish and think of ourselves.

How will you make a difference in the future?
I will make a difference by telling and asking people to help to stop child slavery. Making another movie or short video like this one would really help to spread awareness on the cause and maybe I would make another video but with different information. I will also choose to buy fair trade chocolate instead of the ones that use child slavery.

How Warren scared the aliens away from earth.

Alien Story
These aliens came to Earth and told me that they were going to destroy my home planet. Then I begged and asked if there was anything I could do to save earth. They said " if you can solve these 3 questions on proportion we will consider not to destroy earth.
Question 1) They thought they were smart pfft

Determine the unit rate .
A) three rolls for 99 c .

Yes I got that one right so they gave me one more.

Question 2)

B) Seven identical objects have a mass of 14 kg.

Another one right. They were impressed so the last question they game me was their unsolved only question.

The final and last question to save earth from the earth.

Determine the Unit rate

a) two pens cost 94 cents.

That question was the easiest one of all. They were scared of how smart I was that they left as quick as I can blink my eyes.

Warren,Bruce,Gordon,&Joe's Pay It Foward.

Pay It Forward

Part 1 [What is pay it forward]
Pay it forward is a little thing that one person helps three people, then those 3 people help another 3 people each. Then it will spread rapidly if everyone did that. So if a person does something for you you should do something for 3 other people to pay it forward. And instead of thinking of your
self next time do something for someone else.

Part 2
What was your pay it forward act of kindness?
The act of kindness that my group did was hand out Christmas cards to make someones day a little bit brighter.

Why did you choose this activity?
well you all know how the holidays can be hectic, so what we did is if someone had a bad day we might make their day.

When did you do your act of kindness.
On December 8th at our lunch time in the freezing cold.

Part 3

How did your act of kindness go.

I think it went really well because we know we made at least someone smile.

What Happened?

we went around the neighborhood handing out Christmas cards, and putting them in their mail boxes.

How did you fell?

I felt really good to make someone else happy, instead of myself

How did the people react?

I know that the reaction of the person at Ashcroft was really happy during that busy winter day.

Did you ask the person to "Pay It Forward"?

Yes we did.

How did they react to your request?

She just asked what pay it forward was and we told her.

Part 4

Why is the idea of "Pay It Forward" so important ?

It is important because instead of thinking of yourself you can make a difference in someone Else's life.

Has your act of kindness made a difference?

I think it has because I think I made someones day .

Ratio: When two or more quantities are compared in the same units.

Rate: When two quantities are compared in two different units.

They are different because they both compare units in a different way.
They are also the same because they use the ratio notation.

Warren's Coin Math, Oct. 12/ 09

Coin Math
Question one) If you put one coin a day in the jar how long till the jar is filled
Well... if you put only pennies in the jar it would take 10,000 days to fill the jar
If you put only nickles in it would take you 2,000 days to fill the jar
If you put only dimes in the jar it would take 1,000 days
If you put only quarters in the jar it would take 400 days
Question two) How much money is in half the jar
Well... if the jar was cut in half it wouldn't exactly be 50 dollars, because the jar isn't completely full, it depends on what coins are on the top two quarters, and how many coins are on the top half of the jar.
My estimation is that there would be around 25-35 dollars because the coins look evenly spread out, it depends on how many coins, and the values are on the top.
Part Two
How long would it take to fill the jar??
The U.S.A. coins are 1 cent piece, the 5 cent piece, and the 25 cent piece
What we did in class today was we made ratios, and tables.
You have to use one roll of of each of the the coins.
In a 1 cent roll there are 50 coins (1 cent) in the 5 cent roll there are 40 coins, in the 10 cent roll there is 50 coins, and in the 25 cent roll there is 40 coins
To make a number that is friendly with 100 we used 2 rolls of pennies, 2 rolls of nickles, 2 rolls of dimes and 1 roll of quarters to equal $25. To get one hundred you must multiply 25 by 4.
The number of coins we used to make $100 we multiplied the 1 cent and the 10 cent roll by 8 to equal 400 coins per the rolls. (50x8= 400), And we multiplied the 5 cent roll by 8 to equal 320 coins. And we also multiplied the 25 cent rolls by 4 because we only used one roll of quarters to equal 160 coins. In order to equal $100 we used 1280 coins
C.A.N.
We also made ratios, and tables on the Canadian coins. But we added two coins one is the loonie and the other is the toonie.
We made $100 by using two rolls of pennies, two rolls of nickles, two rolls of dimes, one roll of quarters, one roll of loonies, and one roll of toonies.
The values of the rolls : pennies, nickles, dimes, and the quarters all stay the same. But the loonies and toonies there are 25 coins in one roll. The loonie is worth one dollar, and the toonie is worth two dollars.
We multiplied the pennie, and the dime by 2 with 50 coins in each roll, to equal 100 coins. (50x2=100). We also multiplied the nickle by 2 also but there is only 4o coins in a roll... so it equals 80 coins. We multiplied the loonie and the toonie by one to equal 25 coins. Last but not least we multiplied the quarters by one because that is all we needed to make $100, there is 40 coins in a roll of quarters. The number of coins we used to make 100 dollars is 370 because 100+100+80+40+25+25=370
IF YOU ONLY PUT ONE COIN IN A DAY HOW LONG WOULD IT TAKE??????
If you used the american coin method it would take you 3 years and five months to make $100
If you used the canadien coin method it would take you 1 year and like 5 days.

oct. 5/ 09, four 4's

4 four's
the reason why 4/4 is the same as 4 over 4 is because the divide sign is like a fraction with the dots meaning the unknown number.

All you have to do is plug in the numbers the numerator on the top half of the fraction and the denominator on the bottom half of the fraction.

The dash in the middle of the fraction means it divides the two numbers just like the dash in the divide sign.

4 over 4 is like is like dividing 4/4 and the answer of both equations is 1

Sorry i couldn't get a divide sign the picture and the edit Html didnt work

Question 4:

A) the pictograph represents Ravi's spending because it shows that he spent 10 dollars more on food than on the movies

B) the circle graph shows Ravi's spending better because the graph uses mass, colours, and lables

C) A disadvantage of the circle graph is you have to add upp the total up then divide to get the answer. An advantage of a circle graph is that it uses percent out of 100. A disadvantage of a pictograph is that it does not use exact numbers, and it rounds up and down. An advantage of a pictograph is that it is easy to understand because it shows how mu
pictograph the picture is worth on the graph.
