Brianna's Scribe Post

Today I am doing questions 5 and 9.

5. Ravi purchased 3 DVDs for $19.99 each. Find the total cost of the DVDs including 5% GST and 6% PST.

*To make this problem simpler, I rounded $19.99 to $20*

$20.00 multiplied by three equals $60.

So $60 is 100%

So if you divide $60 by 100, it would equal $0.60 which is 1%

Then if you multiply $0.60 by 10 then you get $6.00 which is 10%.

If you add up 100%, 10%, and 1% then you get 111% which is equal to $66.60

So the total cost of the DVDs was $66.60.

9. Arjay was thinking of buying a car worth $ 23 000, but delayed purchasing the car for a year. During the year, the cost of the car increased by 3.2%.

a) What was the price of the car when Arjay purchased it?

$ 23000 is 100%

So 23000 divided by 100 equals 230 which is 1%

230 multiplied by 2 equals 460 which is 2%

Then you take 10% which is 2300 and multiply that by 3 to get 6900

6900 +460=7300

7300 is 32% of 23000

So divide 7300 by 10 to get 730 which is 3.2%

730 + 23000= 23 730

Arjay payed $ 23 730 for the car.

b) What was the total cost of the car including 5% GST and 5% PST?

So now 23 730 is 100%

If you divide 23 730 by 10 which would give you 2 373

2 373 is 10%

So if you add 2 373 to 23 000, you would get 26 103

So the total price of the car was $26 103.
