Probability can be expressed by using:

2 Minutes to Make a Difference Final Reflection: Chantell M

So we did this project called 2 Minutes to Make a Difference, and after all of the researching and taking notes and organizing information, we were told to do a final reflection. I know mine is late...but I am taking the time to finish it properly.

We made serveral small changes to our video. we added some more pictures (due to some suggestions) which helped lengthen the video. We also prolonged some images to give people some time to read the text. We also fixed up the minor spelling mistakes pointed out to us.

The student suggestions were quite helpful. Some of the images we added helped get the point across that we were serious about this issue(at least I thought so).

How we found our expert:
Laura was the one who hooked us up with an expert. She (or her parents) were well aquainted with a respected doctor and therfore had the connections that allowed us to include our interview piece.

Our experts name is Shane Hartry.
Unfortunately, I wasn't present for the interview, but I do know that his ansewrs did clear up some things for me. Many things can lead to obesity, but the main causes are lack of exercise and over-eating. Many things can lead to such; boredom, mood, stress... and the list could go on...

Our greatest success for the project:
I would say our greatest success would be that while filming, we managed to keep our laughter down. Since we're all friends, you think we'd have been whooping it up halfway through our video, but no......
The strategies (I used) was to think if dead animals while filming so I wouldn't laugh. During one of our bloopers, I said this out loud and our group thought it was rather funny.
I think think this project helped us bond more ( even though the arguing brought some stress). I also think that I learned a thing or two about video editing.

What frustrated me the most was that we had so many ideas that we wanted to use, that we ended up arguing on which one was the best. Catfight...not pretty.....

I personally think that this project is important to all people. It gets people 'in the know' about certain issues; like poverty or racism.

In the future I'd like to make a difference by starting my own charity or becoming an affiliate of a well known humanitarian oganization.

Final Cut

The changes we made between our Version 1 video and our final cut is that we added pictures to our second video. We also fixed up our scripted. The students comments mostly told us to add pictures and as you can see, we have put pictures.

How did you find your expert?

We found our expert by looking up " Environmentalist in Winnipeg ".

- He told us information that we had never known before.
- He taught us that their is a plastic dump in the middle of the pacific ocean

This movie project in general was a great success. I think our groups greatest success was finishing up our video. This Movie project showed me that things I should careful about and things I could get.

The main problem in our movie project was getting everything to fit together, like we were having problems with getting the pictures, sound, and our voices to fit all together. We ask teachers and students.

I think the 2 minutes to Make a Diffrence was important to us grade 8's because we learned bits and peices about the our world. Everyone had diffrent topics and we learned more about poverty and our environment.

In the future I will make a diffrence by telling people about what is happening in our world and how we can stop it. I will try not to harm our environment.

The changes my group and I did was to add pictures. We added pictures into our final cut to make the video more effective and show people how much our environment is getting affective by plastic bags. We also changed the script in a way that it would make more sense, to the audience. The comments by the students helped us to see what little and big changes we needed to make for our movie. Then in the end the comments helped us a lot and made our movie better.

3 important points the expert helped us on:

- Our expert helped us with the questions and information we didn't find the answer to.

- He told us how he, himself can make a difference about plastic bags.

- He gave us new information that we didn't know in our other researches.

What I learned about from the expert was that the plastic bags piling up in the Pacific Ocean was twice the size of Texas, which shocked all three of us when he told us that.

At first we all emailed a bunch of other experts but only 1 emailed us back, the expert that emailed us back was from the University of Manitoba. When our expert emailed us back, he gave us his number. So we did our interview over the phone, and we asked him our questions that we couldn't find the answers to.

I think our movie was a success! Although we had so much complications on making our final cut, we still did it. My group and I all equally helped on the movie project.

While making out movie we had a little difficulty on how to put pictures, music, and audio at the same time just to make the movie the way we wanted it to be. But all we really had to do was ask teachers and classmates.

For me, the 2 minutes to make a difference was important to us grade 8s because when we do a project like this, we get to see more about whats going on in the environment. I really liked how we all tried doing different topics and learning about them.

I personally will make a difference by telling family about how plastic bags are ruining our environment and how much plastic bags are being used every year and to try and use less plastic bags and more reusable bags. I will also try not to use as much plastic bags myself.

- The changes we made were to change the voice recordings to text, different background, and adding in different pictures. We got the idea to change voice recordings to text from a comment.

- Our groups expert was Bruce's mom, Ellen Gahigi, she is a Field Coordinator for the U.N.
- why there is poverty in Somalia - How the U.N is helping - How we can help support Somalia.
Bruce's mom said that we can do so much to help Somalia as an individual.

3) What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project. What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?

- I think our greatest success was editing our first draft of the video and making it better and stronger. There are many skills we could take, for example , how to make a strong, effective and influential statement.

- The most frustrating thing was all of the pre-writing activities because to me it was boring but important.

CHANGES:
2. In our final video we changed the music because we felt that it didn't fit on what our video was on. We took out the interviews because the adio wasn't that good and you couldn't really understand what they were saying. We also put some more info and pictures in. I think that we used the comments to help us with the final version.

3,4,5. we didn't find an expert for our movie but we tried.

6.I think our greatest success for this project was the editing because we knew waht we were doing. I think we should take our editing skills with us into the future.

2. In the final version of the video I changed the volume. In the first one I guess the interview was scratchy because it was to quiet so I had to raise the volume. I lowered the music and the interview so it was clearer. I also added some writing when there was talking so we could know what they were saying. Lastly I added some more pictures to set a better mood in how it is important.
I think the comments were helpful. It showed us how we could make the video better.

3. We found our expert at the Winnipeg Humane Society, because I knew that the humane society helps animals so I thought there would be an expert that could help us. Three things our expert showed us were that the Humane Society helps a lot of animals and that they do a lot of stuff to treat the animals or make the animals feel better. Another thing she told us is there is a lot of things we can do to help the animals. We couldn't fit in all the things she told in the interview.
From my expert I learned a lot about how many animals they take care of and what they do to help abused animals.

4. I think the best thing about our video was the mood. I think the music went with the video really well, it make the video more effective and more interesting. I can take the information our expert gave us and share it with others so they can help too.

5. It was really frustrating when I was editing the video. I would make some changes but then the computer would freeze up and wouldnt work. When that happened I would have to close it then restart it again, that way it would work again.

6.I think 2 minutes to make a difference is important for grade 8's because we are the age that we can change peoples thinking on he earth. We are the age that we understand what is going wrong and help change it as we grow up. We can also teach the younger kids how to change the world and they can teach other people, kind of like pay it forward! =)

7. I can make a difference by volunteering to places that can change the world like the Winnipeg Humane Society or even places that help other things like SEED Winnipeg( that helps refugees). But ill have to do that when im older. I would also like to donate to places. I already sponcer a child in South Africa named Lesago and I donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Also I give my old stuff to the Canadian Diabetes clothes line.

Questions 3, 4 and 5: We never got an expert, I'm not really sure why.

6. I think our greatest success was picking up the garbage, a few noticed and told us to keep up the good work, a car even drove by and the driver told us we were doing a good job. We had gotten 2 full bags of garbage, and we were at for about 30-60 minutes.

7. The thing that frustrated me the most was when we had to get the video up. We had some troubles because we were trying to get the photo's into Windows Movie Maker so it took a few days to resolve the problem.

8. The 2 minutes to make a difference project is important to Grade 8 students because it teaches us that we are all humans and explains the struggles of our world, and makes us think of a way to fix it and make it better.

the changes Althea made on our movie project is the music and the text because you can hardly read some of the text. and some of the student comments helped a little bit on finishing our final cut.

For the interview part of our movie project we were suppose to interview Mrs.Mota but she was busy so what Althea did is interview one of her family friend.

Our greatest success in the 2 minutes project is putting all our movie stuff together and finishing it before the due date.

nothing really frustrated me during the movie making process except when the due date was close I thought we weren't gonna finish before the final cut.

The 2 minutes project is important to grade 8 students because they will learn that some people out there needs helped.

2- well our first cut wasn't really our first we had about 4 or 5 before we got to a certain point where we were satisfied enough with it to put it up as our first cut. We had taken out many parts and pictures we even re-filmed the scenes because they were to long in the beginning. But some changes me made from our first cut to our final cut was picture additions, timing, spelling, the removing of some unimportant parts and pictures of actual obese people. The comments made by the students helped a lot actually, we were able to find out what needed to be fixed, what needed to be added and what need to be given more time to be seen.

3 - Finding our expert was actually very simple since he attends Laura's church. 3 important things our expert added to our video was 1) he justified our storyline considering our topic was obesity caused by depression, 2) he added a little more interest to a not so interesting part of our video and 3) his expert opinion showing that our information wasn't complete baloney.

4 - We found our expert through one of our group members Laura because he attends her church.

5 - Well for me our greatest success would be how our video turned out and the "skills" I used to put the video all together weren't really skills they were more like learning processes through the entire film I learned how to make an entire video out of movie clips, pictures and a song and even though the process became frustrating at times it was all worth it because I learned new things and made something I'm really proud of and I think what I learned may come in quite handy in the future.

6 - Again something that frustrated me was the editing for the movie since I was doing most of it on my own considering moving our project from one computer to another wasn't an option. I found that sometimes during the process my computer would shut off because it was being used for so long so all my work would be gone and that was really frustrating because my hours of work became a complete waste. But I got over this frustration quickly because I knew my team was counting on me to put our video together well and I couldn't blame anyone because I volunteered for the position myself so I found that if I just took a little break for a while and then got back to work my frustration was put to ease.

7 - I think it's important to us because it shows us all these different problems in the world and how our lifestyles can cause these problems, and how we can solve these problems with the simplest acts by donating money, food and clothing, exercising more often and even walking to different places instead of driving, etc. It teaches us not to be selfish and sit down and just look around to what is going around us since being teenagers we become self absorbed and we don't care to look around to see what problems other places are involved in.

8 - I will try to make a difference be doing whatever I can, like walking to school more often to help the environment and donate my old clothes to charity instead of throwing them out, eat healthy and exercise and maybe one day even save a stray dog from the street to prevent it from being harmed by abuse.

Please reflect and talk about the changes you made between the first and final cut of your movie. Were the student comments helpful in making your final cut better?
First of all, I would just like to say that our first video wasn't really what we expected it to be, because we thought that we didn't put enough effort in it at all. To me personally, I think everything was really bad about it except for the sound. The voices were horrible and I thought that it really wasn't a movie. So what we've done was gone to Warren's house, and we actually
tried to make a better video. We changed everything such as the pictures, the format of our 1st video, and we also took out our voices because we didn't really know how to put voices into it because the first one just didn't work well. To be totally honest, I am a little disappointed in myself, because I feel that I didn't work to the best of my ability for this HUGE project and I am totally never going to make that mistake again!

If you did not find an expert tell us why you were unsuccessful. Be honest.
Unfortunately, my group and weren't able to get hold of a expert on child labor in chocolate factories because none of them responded. We did our best to try and find one, we searched it up on Google, we sent many emails too as much experts as possible, but nothing. Our group also planned on asking our parents for their help, and let us know if they knew anyone who had enough experience.

What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project. What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?
I think that one of my greatest successes is learning how to edit and create movies on Windows Movie Maker.
It was easy once I got the hang of it and I also learned how some chocolate is made by kids that are forced to work and don't get paid much for their salary. A skill that I will take along with me in the future and use is the skill of using Windows Movie Maker because that would come in handy when I do another video project.

What frustrated you during the movie making process? What strategies did you use to become successful?
What frustrated me was how long it took to figure out how to use Windows Movie Maker but in the end we figured out how to use it and finished the movie. It also frustrated me how we couldn't find and expert on child slavery that we could interview. We did look for experts and we emailed them, but none of them responded. Overall, I think that it is best to stay calm instead of freaking out because if we freak out, we start to forget about the things we could still do. That is how I became successful.

Why is the 2 Minutes project important to Grade 8 Students?
I think thatthe 2 minutes project was important for us grade 8 students because it teaches us and educates us about the other things in life. The things we don't notice that need the most help ever. Things like child slavery in chocolate factories. Not much people think about how it affects their lives and the lives of the children who are working. So, making a video is showing other people that there are other things that need to be noticed and we can't be selfish and think of ourselves.

How will you make a difference in the future?
I will make a difference by telling and asking people to help to stop child slavery. Making another movie or short video like this one would really help to spread awareness on the cause and maybe I would make another video but with different information. I will also choose to buy fair trade chocolate instead of the ones that use child slavery.

My group and I changed many things from our first video to our final cut. The one thing my group and I focused on improving was the voices because in the comments we got and when we watched it on Youtube.com it was horrible. We changed it by taking out the voices and just put some text instead. The comments from other students really helped us because it made our video much better.

Sadly, my group and I weren't successful in finding an expert because when my group and I were looking for some experts to email and ask us for some help, none of them sent us an email back. Also, we didn't really find that much experts in this problem, so we couldn't send a lot of people emails. We also tried to ask our parents, family, relatives, and friends for help if they knew anyone who was an expert in this topic but we didn't get any help from them either.

My greatest success in the 2 Minutes to Make a Difference project, was that I learned how to make movies on Windows Movie Maker and I learned how most of the chocolate I made was made by kids my age who are barely getting payed. The skills I will take away with me in the future is how to make movies on the computer in case we need to make another movie.

While making this movie, two things were very frustrating to the group. One of them was that we never found an expert to help us with our video. Second was that it took us a long time to figure out how to work Windows Movie Maker. The strategy we used to help us figure out how to use Windows Movie Maker was we asked other students for help and used Google to help us too.

The 2 Minutes project is important to the grade 8 students because it made us realize that in other parts of the world, bad things are happening and that we should be thankful for everything that we have because other kids in the world aren't as fortunate as us to have a life like we do.

I will make a difference in the future by, not buying chocolate made by slaves and to always buy fair trade chocolate. Another way I will make a difference is to help people who are starting fundraisers for kids that have to work. Also, I will make a difference by spreading the word about child labour and how we can help stop it.

Our movie changed almost completely from our first version to our last version. We changed our way of showing information from a voice-over to all text, we re-arranged the images to have a more effective impact, and we used more effective music for the situation. The comments from classmates were helpful as they explained what we had done effectively in the movie and what problems in organization and presentation we could fix.

We found our expert fairly easy, as she was Bruce's mom and we simply needed to ask her if she would help us with our project. A important thing that our expert talked about was that, despite what we originally thought poverty was the main problem in Somalia, it turned out that war was the main problem.

The greatest success of our project was nothing special just the fact that we were able to inform people that there is a problem in Somalia and that if everyone was willing to pitch in we could make a difference and change the lives of thousands. Skills I'll take away from this project is the knowledge that when your making an informative video text is better than voices by a long shot.

What frustrated me the most was the fact that the problem we chose wasn't one we could solve or get information on from Winnipeg because it turned out that allot of people actually have no idea what's going on in Somalia and a few didn't even know where Somalia was.

The project is important to the grade 8 students because it shows us all the problems going on in the world and shows us ways to fix those problems

I'll make a difference by informing people of the many problems in the world and simple but effective ways they can help to solve those problems.

We changed alot of things in our video, in are firat version we put are text on pictures and on the final cut we put the text on a plain black background. We also took out peoples opinions because people said that it was destracting to the information. Another thing we did was change the music because in our first version we put music that was kind of romantic, and we changed it to something more powerful. Yes, the comments were helpful because the opinions helped us change our video to improve it.

We tried to get an expert but we didn't, because we tried calling and sending them emails but they were so busy they didn't have time for our video. We would try to call a few times a week to see if they had time but no one could do it. After that we tried interviewing other people and getting there opinions, but that didn't really fit in to the video.

I think our greatest sucess in the movie was the final cut editing because our first version some people commented and said we had poor editing so in our final cut we tried to make the editing more simple so people could understand more. I think are final copy was pretty good. So know i and my other group member can take this experience and make better videos on the future.

I think that the most frustrating thing for me was uploading the video because, it took me forever and I had no problem uploading the first version I didn't understand why we had problems with the final copy. After that we just asked Mr.Harbeck and we finally got the video uploaded.

I think the 2 minutes to make a difference is important to grade eight to students because it shows us the reality of what is happening in the world, and it opens are eyes to what we can do to stop it.

In the furture I will make a difference by being safe with water and trying not to waste it. I will also not litter and stop other people from littering because all of that trash goes into the water.

Well for me I think our greatest success was when we had an iced tea stand that we raised $61.00. at first we thought that we weren't going to make any money but in the end we did.

During the movie while we were recording our voices some of us kept messing up or our voices weren't loud enough and it got really frustrating. I will be louder in future projects and speak more clear and I will use editing skills to make a video more effective.

Speaking clearly and loud was frustrating because I had to pronounces some words and it got really annoying to start over and keep recording till it was perfect.

In the future I want to have another iced tea stand to help out people and/ or donate money and clothing to people in poverty

The movie 1 was about bullying. I know that the music isn't any effected to the movie. And at the end were a little video about bullying plus a bystander. Althea know she got an expert, but we're trying to get a teacher or the principal to tell us about bullying, but she was busy. Jennifer and I were asking if Mrs. Mota wasn't busy but we tried to getting her to do our interview about Bullying.
Then Althea made contact with someone else, but it was good enough for the team. The most thing I noticed that in the comments that someone said that our movie, the text was going fast.
And there were few many pictures about bullying like a video we would put about bullying something effected to those that can make difference. About the end when the girl being slapped in the head that should be the oppsite or it could be like that. That made feel how I got bullied long time ago being a nerd doing other people's stuff and they think it's not good enough.

On the Final cut at the ending was a little effected because it said that " Prevent bullying is to tell an Adult" That's what I like about. That should be at the end and the font should be change into a time roman anyways it's the final cut no changes right.
For my skills in the future if I do this again I would do this without the music and show How bullying feels about physical, cyberbullying and maybe show how it is done in schools. Like new kid came and some how that kid show that he was bullied. So he told is parents to stop this bullying. I would do without the music and put a 2 mins video about bullying because it would show viewers that Bullying affects.
If I were making a difference, I would just stand up those who got bullied or maybe I would just tell the principal to make an end of it those who bullies other victims around them. Maybe bullying isn't in one place we could make a difference in schools around the world like U.S.A, other continents and other province .
The most frustrating thing to do for our movie is looking for our expert.
About doing this project to other gr.8 students, is to change the world to stop bullying; it affects other people's feelings not just North America maybe around the world. Because doing this, is making people realize how the world is feeling right now and they don't know any of it so that's why were doing this project.

1st version

2.When my partner and I were making the first version , I forgot to do alot of things because it was not planned out properly . While my partner tried to get information , I made the video . I thought that the video would actually try to make people to make a difference . It didn't work at all. I forgot to ask the person if I was aloud to use the video . People commenting on our first version made a difference on our final version .

5. We weren't able to find a expert because , we did not know where to find a animal expert during the time . Also humane society was difficult for us to find since they moved.

6.The successes during our 2mins is the editing part of it . What will I take to use in the future is my video editing skills and try to improve it more .

7. The things that frustrated me is how some parts of Imovie weren't co-porating with the video . I had to think of another way to make the video and that is using another video editing program. That was my strategy .

8. 2 minutes to make a difference is important to grade 8 students because 1 its worth marks , 2 its to show them what is happening around the world and how they can try to make a difference .

Reflection:

The changes I made between Version 1 and Final cut is that I changed the music, slowed down the text and changed the colour of the font. Thanks to the comments that they post, it helped me made the final cut better.

Our expert was Daphne Ries Jalique, she is one of my closest family friend. I chose to interview her because she is really smart and helps me with my homework's.

3 Things the expert added to our video are:

•psychological disorders such as hyper vigilance, mood disorder, bipolar disorder, sleep disorder and eating disorder may happen

•Student should always be cautious about their environment.

•Bullying is a major concern.

What I learned from my expert is that students could truly fight and give justice against bullying.

My greatest success in the 2 Minute to Make a Difference project is that I finished it in time and I'm able to find an expert to interview. Finishing in time is a skill that i would taken because sometimes handing something late could deduct your mark.

Looking for an expert to interview was very frustrating because I kept telling my groups to help me find one, but they didn't find one. So, what I did was I checked MSN list and I remembered that I could ask my family friend.

2 Minutes to Make a Difference is important to grade 8 students because it could teach or show a student what is going on around us and what they could to help.

What I would do to make a difference in the future is that I would teach or tell them what happens to the people they bully and show them how we/I could make difference.

Changes
Some changes we made to our video were, choosing to remove voices and just adding in text. Another thing we did was add in a better background for the begging of the video and adding in more convincing pictures. Some of the comments we got were really helpful for example, a comment that told us to remove voices and substitute it with text.
Expert
Our expert was Ellen Gahigi, a Field Coordinator for the United Nations.
Three important points the expert gave us were...1) How poverty in Somalia is caused, 2)What the UN is doing about this problem, 3)What we can do to help support Somalia. What we learned from our expert is that anyone can help Somalia or any other country in need by doing one thing at a time.
Success
In my opinion our greatest success was being able to find an expert and explain what we can do to help heal the problem in Somalia. Skills that we will take from this experience is being able to explain what is happening in parts of North East Africa. What frustrated us during the movie project was not being sure on how to approach our subject. Strategies we used to be successful were, assigning different parts of the project to each member, research and just having good teamwork.
Importance
This project is important to the grade 8 students because it teaches us that the world does not revolve around us and that each and every person should care for each other.

Hello Everyone!

The changes we've made for this video would be the music so it would actually blend in with the music instead of being out of place. We've also changed the color of the font so it would be seen easily instead of blending with the picture. We've also made the pictures last longer since people can't read so fast. The students that had commented on our Version 1 really did helped our editor/director Althea make a better video. Which turned out pretty good!

Our expert was Althea's closest friend Daphne Ries Jalique. We choose her because she seems really smart and she was very helpful to Althea with her homework. The three important things the expert mention to our video is psychological disorders, students need to be aware about what's around them, and bullying is something we have to be aware about. What I have learned about this is, we shouldn't just watch the person being bullied, we have to help them! We may experience that as well in some near future.

Our great success for our 2 minutes to make a difference video would be completing it and be able to find an expert otherwise, it won't be a complete video and we would lose marks if we haven't found one. The skills I would be taking along with me would be completing projects and video skills. Because you'll never know when you would want to make a video in the near future. I would also use creative common pictures cause we don't have the right to take someone else's image and claim it's ours.

There was some things were frustrating us like it took us a while to find our expert since we didn't really know where to start with. But were lucky that we did found one. Some of the strategies we did was just be calm about what were doing don't get stressed. Also if one person forgot to do something, we just have to remind that person to do their work.

I think the reason why "Making a Difference" is important to Grade 8's is because, it's our final year of being in elementary. Were growing up. This is the right time to care about the issues all around the world. In other grades they may just be too busy continuing to work hard for their future instead of caring.

How will I make a difference? It depends if it is the right time for me to make a difference. Usually, some of us are afraid of asking people to support us about our issue. I've always wanted to do something that is out of my legue.

We did not make any changes of our second version of are movie for two reasons. One reason is because only one person commented and all it said was great job guys. The second reason is because we did not really know what to change because we thought it was already good.

Were the student comments helpful in making your final cut better?
No because like I said only one person commented and there comment did not have any feedback on how to make our second video better then our first one.

We did not find a expert for 2 reasons.one reason is that we looked all over the Internet and we could not find anybody to communicate with that had to do with our topic. we tried everything that we could think of to communicate with an expert with no luck. Our second reason is because if we did have an expert interview in our movie project, it would have been longer then 3 minutes and Mr. Harbeck said that we would lose marks if the movie project is over 3 minutes and our movie was already 2 minutes and 54 seconds.

What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project.

I think our greatest success in our project was the actual part where we made a difference.I think this was our greatest success because we made some blocks clean (without garbage), we prevented some damage to the ozone layer, and might have prevented a sickness of some kind because when garbage eventually decomposes, it puts a transparent poisonous gas in the air that can cause sickness. While we were cleaning up garbage, two guys said good job. One guy drove by in his car and said it and the other guy came out of his back yard and said it.

What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?
These skills that I will take with me in the future are making a difference, helping others, helping the world, and being a good citizen.

What frustrated you during the movie making process? What strategies did you use to become successful?What frustrated me during the movie making process is the part where we had to put it all together in movie maker because we could not figure out to use movie maker and it took use a couple of days. We changed a few things for our final cut. We added credits, changed the commentary to text, we re-arranged the images, added a different approach on the government and made our music louder. Our changes were based on the comments that other people told us personally and on our own groups opinions. I think that the comments that we received made ultimately improved our video.

We found our expert by asking Bruce's mom to organize a interview. She works with immigrants and interviewed a Somalian. She helped us discover the war, learn about the war's history and helped us find out that the war destroyed homes and created refugees.

I think that I learned a lot about the different ways we can make a difference. I also learned a lot about editing when we were creating our video. I will try to use my knowledge of audio editing in my future video projects.

I was frustrated at the first draft of the movie. I thought it was horrible. We fixed it by making suggestions of how we can fix the video and doing multiple changes to make the video better.

The 2 minutes to make a difference assignment is important to grade eights because it shows us that there are many people in the world that need our help. We need to put them first and help them out before we help ourselves.

I will make a difference in the future by trying to raise awareness of important subjects like war in Somalia to my friends and family members.

We made a lot of changes in the first version. It took some time for us to make it better. we changed the song because we thought the song is not relating to the topic, because i think the topic is very powerful and the song that we used first wasn't really that interesting since it was a very romantic-like tone. we also change the size of the text and the background, because the pictures in the first version contains lots of information , but it was very hard to read. Instead of using a picture for the background of the information we used black and white for the color of the text. We also change the formation of the movie. We removed the part that showed people their opinions about water pollution, We thought it was okay if the video was submitted me without that part of the video because it has many information that get peoples attention. Yes, the students who commented were really helpful it made us think about how we can improve our video

We tried getting an Interview from an expert, but we were unsuccessful because the expert was very busy due to her work and we have no idea when she is free. We tried calling 3 or 2 times a week.

I think the greatest success of the video was the Settings of the movie, it was very simple but because of Monica's editing skills she made the movie very good. We had so much trouble gathering all the media. But, all in all i thought that this project experience would be very helpful in the future because now i know what to do.

I was very frustrated about uploading the movie. We had no idea how to do it, so we asked people for advice and it didn't became very helpful. We decided to ask for help to Mr. Harbeck and FINALLY the video was uploaded but it was 2 days late.

I think the 2 minutes project is improtant because it helps us realize what people are experiencing around the world and what we can do to help.

In the Future , I will make a difference by living the things i learned in the past life. Like donating foods, money, clothing, and etc. Cleaning the roads, filtering water, and using things that are most likely economically friendly.

To make our video better, we added pictures of actual obese people and we cut out minor parts, we also added how you can keep your self from becoming obese. My group members and I also fixed the spelling mistakes in the script.

Our expert was doctor Shane Hartry. We found him quite easily because he goes to Laura's church so we came up with question to ask him and he gladly answered them. Doctor Hartry added a real doctor's perspective on our topic and it helped us understand about obesity better than any website could. He also added more reality to our movie because he showed us how real people are suffering from obesity and are dying daily.

My greatest success in our video was the research. The information was easy to find and to understand. I used a lot of jot notes during this stage in our project. For example if I found something that I didn't know on a site then I would jot it down. This is a good skill to learn because it helps you find the main points in a story ex specially when you are writing.

The frustrating part of making this movie for me was working with my friends because trying to come up with a subject and producing an idea for a movie is very challenging. It's even harder when you are working with three other people and they all have different ideas and want to do things they're own way. To fix this problem we brainstormed a way to make all our ideas work together. We ended up using a little bit of every one's idea to make a good movie.

Two minutes to make a difference it important to grade eight students because we're at the age where we start to understand that not everyone is as fortunate as we are or how the world is changing around us. This activity helps grade eights understand that there is a real world with real people who have problems. Most teenagers are all wrapped up in their own worlds that they don't see what life is really like. It is also a very fun activity that gives students the excuse to work with their friends or to talk to them during class without teachers getting mad at them.

In the future, I will make a difference by donating money to charities. When I'm older I might even start a home for children on the streets because all children deserve a place to call home, where they are warm and safe. I got this idea from a book that I have recently read about a women who did the same things for little boys in London.

Final Cut

The changes we made between our Version 1 video and our final cut is that we added pictures into our second video to show more meaning to what we mean when we talk about the damages and other things. We also did some changes to some of our script, we changed some of our sentences around to make it sound better for the video. The students comments helped us see what kind of changes we needed to make our video better, they suggested we should add pictures. In the end the pictures worked out great in our video.

3 important things he helped us learn:
-Our expert helped us with some missing inormation about whats happening around the earth with plastic bags
-He talked about whats happening about the media coverage about plastic bags
-He also helped us add information about how he would make a difference himself, which helped us show more possibilities to make a difference

I learned that there is a big pile of plastic in the Pacific Ocean which was about twice the size of Texas. That also helped by showing a bigger impact about what plastic bags are doing to our environment. I will never forget that shocking information.

We found our expert from the University of Manitoba website and looked around for an environmentalist's number, to interview over the phone. We asked to speak to an expert, but the person who answered the phone told us that we were able to ask him some questions. We did not have to wait to find an expert.

I think our greatest success of this project was getting great information together and made it look really nice in the end. I also think that getting out video finished, was a great success. We had trouble trying to finish our movie and putting everything together for our final draft. I think all of this information that we learned in this whole project helped me learn things I should and shouldn't do when I grow up.

The thing that frustrated me during this movie is the deadlines that we had, I was busy sometimes and it was hard to find times to get it done. It was also hard to get the whole group together to work on it, since our times when we were available weren't great. Finishing the movie was also frustrating to me when I when I was working on this project. My group and I didnt really have a strategie for this project, we just tryed to work on it with all our group members together.

I think the 2 minutes to make a difference project is important to grade 8 students and other students because it shows us the things that are happening to our earth, so that when we grow up we can make the changes that we need to make, to help keep our earth a good place to live in and also help it to stay clean and healthy.

This is what we started out with, where we put all of our info and pictures and questions and answers. We didn't end up using all of the pictures we collected because we took a lot of our own pictures to match with the theme of the project. However, we did use pictures of real life obese people in our final draft.

This was our first draft of the video.

This was our final draft of the video. As you can see, it's much better.

The differences between our first and final movies are pretty big. First of all, we cut out the unnecessary parts that took up too much time, in order to make room for the pictures of actual obese people and ways to avoid and conquer it. We also did another, (needed) spell check, and included the extra credits for the new pictures and the song that played during the movie. The comments played a big roll in making our final movie better. Almost all of our changes were based on the comments.

We found our expert through me actually. His name is Dr. Shane Hartry and he goes to my church.

Here are 3 important points that Dr. Shane added to our movie:

-Obesity is mainly caused by people being lazy and eating large portions of fast foods full of calories that they don't burn off.

-Girls who are depressed will usually eat to fill the pain. (Like in our movie). As they gain weight, they will start to consider themselves fat, which causes them to be even more depressed, thus causing them to eat even more.

-Liposuction is one of the more dangerous operations and is not recommended by most doctors.

In my opinion, our greatest success with the movie project was relating the cause to a real-life situation. I think this allowed the cause to be more interesting to the viewers.

A skill I have taken from doing this project, and will probably use in the future is the ability to relate to those who have a problem or disability that I don't. Being the obese person in the sketch, I got to experience how it might feel to be an obese person. Everyday things can become a challenge...including looking in the mirror. Everyone is beautiful and unique, but in a world revolving around anorexic super models and air-brushed magazines, being larger can be difficult and make you feel awkward and uncomfortable.

The most frustrating component of the movie project was actually getting me to look obese. The first couple of tries, I just looked pregnant and we couldn't find a way to stuff my legs. Our solution was:
2 pillows
2 pillow cases
2 pairs of pj's
5 pairs of socks
My dad's biggest shirt
and waist-up shots only.

I think the 2 Minutes project is important to grade 8 students, and actually everybody because it gives you a sense of what is going on in the world. Our movie project focused on something in North America, however, along the way we learned about issues in places all around the world, and how we can help.

In the future, I will make a difference by educating other people about what they can do to protect themselves from obesity by means other than the movie. Also, I will contribute to causes that support this issue.

Question 1: Explain how to multiply a fraction by a whole number.

I'll use 4/5 x 3 = 12/5 or 2 2/5

Now to multiply a fraction by a whole number is simple all you do is multiply the numerator (top number) by the number you are multiplying (in this case 3) so when you see 4/5 x 3 you should think 4 x 3 = 12 then simply replace the denominator (bottom number) so you'll get 12/5. Another way is to convert the whole number into a fraction by simply placing a 1 under the whole number so 3 would become 3/1 so 4/5 x 3 becomes 4/5 x 3/1 and when multiplying two fractions you multiply the numerator by the numerator and the denominator by the denominator so you end up with

4 x 3 = 12

5 x 1 = 5

so you get 12/5 but we must convert this improper fraction to a mixed fraction so we must find out how many times 5 goes into 12 it goes into 12 2 times with a remainder of 2 so we get 2 2/5.

Question 2: Explain how to divide a fraction by a whole number.
1/4 ÷ 2 = 1/8

The question is essentially asking what is 1/3 ÷ 5? so I'll use the method I explained earlier

= 1/15

1/4 x 1/4 = 1/16

1 x 1 = 1

4 x 4 = 16

1/3 x 2 2/4 = 10/12

2 2/4 = 10/4

1/3 x 10/4 = 10/12

1 x 10 = 10

3 x 4 = 12

1 2/3 x 2 1/5 = 55/15

1 2/3 = 5/3

Hello Everyone!

There is two ways to show how to multiply a fraction by a whole number. One way is to draw a picture or just straight multiplying. Multiply the top then the bottom which gives you the answer. Or I draw a fraction strip to help me solve the answer. The picture below explains both ways. The question example I will show will be in the math textbook page 202 question 6A.

Next, I'm going to show you how to divide a fraction! The easiest way for me to divide a fraction is do draw a fraction strip. The question I am going to use for this diagram will be in the math textbook page 208, question 5D. The Diagram shows how I did it step by step to get the answer.

Next, I'll show you how I solve a word problem using fractions I'm going to use Question 12 for this :D

Part Two!

For part two, I have to show that I understand how to multiply which is very easy. I have to have a fraction multiplied by fraction, fraction multiply by mixed number. and Mixed number multiply by Mixed number.

For the second one, in order for me to solve it, I have to change the mixed number into a improper fraction. By multiplying the denominator by the whole number then add the numerator. Which gives my an improper fraction. From there, I just do the same thing as question one. If my answer turns out as a proper fraction, no need for me to change it to a mixed number.

And for the third one, It's like putting all your work together but, the only thing will be new is converting an improper fraction to a proper fraction. Which is easy, The numerator has to go in the box while the denominator has to stay outside the box. It's like doing long division. When I get a remaining, I use that for my answer.

PART THREE!

The image below represents diving fractions with mixed numbers. First of all I have to find the common denominator that matches with the number am diving once that's done, I draw a fraction strip so that would help me represent my mixed number or fraction. What is my statement is that "How many groups of 1 3/4 goes in 2/4?" Something like that I don't really need to care about the denominator at the end. I just need to keep an eye on the numerator. That will lead me to my answer :]

When you multiply 3 by 4/5, you get an improper fraction. You can't keep an improper fraction, so you have to turn it into a mixed fraction. First you have to find out how many times 5 goes into 12 which is 2, which would be the whole. Then the remainder which would be 2 would go over the five. So the resulting fraction would be 2 2/5.

The second way of multiplying a fraction is with a picture:

To find the product using pictures, first you have to make three groups of 4/5. Then you put all the shaded pieces together to get 2 2/5.

Time for Division

There is only one way to divide a fraction.

You have to divide a fraction using a pictures:

First you have to draw a rectangle and divide it into a half. Then you divide it into three pieces.

Which would give you 1/6.

Finally I'm going to show you how to multiply a fraction by a fraction.

Part 2

This is the second part to my growing post. I will be showing you how to multiply a fraction by a fraction, a fraction by a mixed number, and a mixed fraction by a mixed fraction.

1. Fraction by a fraction a fraction

Multiplying a fraction by a fraction is just straight multiplication, no tricks or conversions necessary.

2. A fraction multiplied by a mixed fraction:

When multiplying a mixed fraction by a regular fraction, you have to first convert the mixed fraction to make an improper fraction.

3. Mixed fraction multiplied by a mixed fraction:

When multiplying a mixed fraction by a mixed fraction, you must first convert them into improper fractions. To do that, first you must multiply the denominator by the whole number then add the numerator. Then when you have your improper fractions, you multiply them together to get your answer. If necessary, you simplify and if the numerator is bigger than the denominator, then you divide them to get a whole number and whatever is left over becomes, your fraction.

This is part 3 of my scribe post...and hopefully the last. Anyways this part is going to be about dividing a fraction by a fraction, and dividing a fraction by a mixed fraction.

To divide a fraction by a mixed fraction:

First you have to find the common denominator. In this question the common denominator would be 4. Then you must find out how many times 3/4 goes into 1 1/2 which would be two times with a remainder of 1 third.

2. Fraction divided by a fraction:

To divide a fraction by a fraction, you have to find out how many times the fraction that is doing the dividing goes into the number that is being divided. For example 1/2 goes into 3/4 1 and an half times.

Determine the product using 2 different methods:

4 x 1/2

The simplest way to solve this (in my opinion) is to change the whole number into a fraction and then just multiply. To change any whole number into a fraction all you have to do is put 1 as your denominator.

Our new equation:

4/1 x 1/2

Now we multiply the numerators by each other, and the denominators by each other.

4 x 1 =4

1 x 2= 2

Our product is now 4/2. To simplify you divide the numerator by the denominator.

4 divided by 2=2

The final product is 2.

Another way to solve this problem is by using diagrams/pictures.

We started out by representing 4 1/2s because that is what the equation is. Then, by adding them together we get the finished product of 4/2 -or- 2.

Now that we have covered multiplication, let's move on to division!

1/4 divided by 2:

As you can see, we started with 1/4. Then, we divided the entire rectangle in two. Now, we pick one to finish the division. That gives us 1/8.

Now, let's try out what we have learned with a word problem. :)

The ares of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta are the same. The sum of their areas is 1/5 the area of Canada. Express the area of these provinces as a fraction of the area of Canada.

In order to figure this out, we have to divide 1/5 of the area of Canada by 3 provinces. -OR- 1/5 divided by 3.

Each province is 1/15 of the area of Canada.

PART 2:

A fraction multiplied by a fraction:

You multiply the numerators to get the numerator and the denominators to get the denominator. Pretty simple.

A fraction multiplied by a mixed number:

First you have to change the mixed number into a fraction by multiplying the whole number by the denominator, then adding the numerator to that number. Then that number becomes your numerator and you keep the same denominator. Then you multiply those fractions and you get your answer.

A mixed number multiplied by a mixed number:

OK, so you already know how to change a mixed number into an improper fraction. (WN x d + n) So that's the same method you use for determining the product of a mixed number by a mixed number. You change them both into improper fractions and then multiply. Then, from there you change the improper fraction into a mixed number by dividing the numerator by the denominator and using the remainder as your fraction.

1 3/7 x 3 2/5

1 x 7 = 7

7 + 3 = 10

Improper fraction = 10/ 7

3 x 5 =15

15 + 2 = 17

Improper fraction = 17/ 5

New question:

10/7 x 17/5

10 x 17 = 170

7 x 5 = 35

PRODUCT: 170/35

170 divided by 35 = 4 6/7

PART 3:

Explain:

1 1/2 divided by 3/4

First we have to find a COMMON DENOMINATOR for each fraction. In other words, we have to find a number that 2 and 4 go into evenly, preferably the SMALLEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. The smallest common denominator of 1 1/2 and 3/4 is 4. This means that we change 1 1/2 to 1 2/4 and keep 3/4 the same. Now we divide by figuring out how many times 3/4 goes into 1 2/4.

The answer is 2.

3/4 divided by 1/2.

Again, we have to find the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR, which we already know is 4. Therefore we turn 1/2 into 2/4 and leave 3/4 the same. Now our job is to find out how many times 2/4 goes into 3/4.

Our answer is 1 1/2. Our denominator changed because when we started to divide, our whole changed from quarters to halves.

Here is my first surface area question:

Okay here is what I did:

front:

13.5 cm x 18.5cm =area 13.5 x 18.5= 249.75cm x 2 = 499.5cm

side:

5 cm x 13.5cm =area 13.5 x 5= 67.5cm x 2 = 135cm

length:

18.5 cm x 5cm =area 18.5 x 5= 92.5cm x 2= 185cm

499.5+135+185= 819.5

Area= 819.5cm

Okay so here's what I did:

A= l x w A= (b x h) / 2

A= 9 x 3 A=(3 x 2.6) / 2

A= 27 The area on one rectangle is 27m A=7.8 / 2

A=3.9 and its the area of one triangle

Surface Area= (3 x rectangle) + (2 x area of triangle)

= (3 x 27) + (2 x 3.9)

= 81 + 7.8

= 88.8

So the surface area is 88.8 centimetre squared.

Here's my third question:

Here's what I did:

Determine the radius of each circle:

7.5 / 2 = 3.75 so 3.75 is the radius of each circle

Find the area of the circle

A=π x r2

A=3.14 x 3.75 x 2

A= 44.15625 so the area of one circle is 44.15625 x 2 = 88.3125 for both circles.

Find the area of the rectangle using the circumference of the circle.

A= l x w

A=(π × d) × w

A= 3.14 × 7.5 × 11

A= 259.05

The area of the rectangle is approximately 259.05 cm2.

Calculate the total surface area.

Surface area = 88.3125 + 259.05

= 347.3625

The total surface area is approximately 347.36 cm2

All you have to do is multiply the first number (4) by the numerator (1) but the demoniator always stays the same so you would get the answer (4/2) then you have to simplify if possible (1 2/2).
C)To Answer this question -All you have to do is use a picture (or number line) to determine the answer. Using a picture all you have to do is make a square. The number of squares going down is the same number as the single number (2) and the squares going across is the same number as the first denominator (4). Then shade in the the number of the single number (2) and use a different colour to shade in the number of the numerator (1) over the already shaded part to get your answer (1/8)

D) To answer this question -
All you have to do is shade in the number of squares that match the single number, 5, then use a different colour to re-shade the number that is the numerator, 1. Then you would get 1/15 as your answer.

The rectangular prism has rectangular faces.

So, use the formula A = lw to find the area of the faces.

For both the front and back faces, l = 5 in. and w = 2 in.

So, the area of the front and back faces is,

5 2 2 = 20 in.²

For both the top and bottom faces, l = 14 in. and w = 5 in.

So, the area of the top and bottom faces is,

14 5 2 = 140 in.²

For both the sides, l = 14 in. and w = 2 in.

Hello, this assignment is a growing post about the surface area of basic 3-D objects. First there is a rectangular prism with a net that contains a problem that I will solve using formulas. Then a triangular prism problem, then a cylinder, after that is two videos showing how I solved it. Before that though, I have to show and solve the three basic 3-D objects below.
This is a rectangular prism with its net (sorry the pictures are bad). A rectangular prism has two squares and four rectangles (or 6 rectangles). Now onto the problem part.

Here's the problem. I need one formula for each side of the prism. However I will do one of each type of side since I am not doing the same side again with the same calculations (makes my life easier and this post shorter). For rectangles and squares, the formula is length (L = length in short) multiplied by width (W = width). Then I am going to put the measurements in for the rectangle (any way does not matter). You can use a calculator if you want for this question (I used one too). In this problem, there are only two shapes with different measurements.

10.2 by 7.4 Rectangles

Rectangle = L x W

Rectangle = 10.2 x 7.4

Rectangle = 75.48m squared

4.7 by 7.4 Rectangles

Rectangle = L x W

Rectangle = 4.7 x 7.4

Rectangle = 34.78m squared

Now after finding all of the areas of the rectangular prism, I will add all of the areas up to get the total surface area of the rectangular prism (what I am trying to find) to finish the problem. There are four 10.2 by 7.4 rectangles and two 4.7 by 7.4 rectangles.

75.48 + 75.48 + 75.48 + 75.48 + 34.78 + 34.78 = 371.48

TSA (Total Surface Area) = 371.48m squared

The next 3-D object is an triangular prism. It has two triangles and three rectangles.

Times the numerator by the numerator. 3 x 7= 21.
denominator x denominator (4 x 8) = 32. 21/32.

5.4 7/8 x 1/7. Pretty much the same but we have to change the mixed fraction to a improper fraction.4 groups of 8 = 32. 32 + 7 = 39. 39/8.39 x 1= 39, 8x 7=56. 39/56.

OK, so here are the shapes.
Rectangular Prism

I really do not know how to list the measurements of this rectangular prism but I will try to explain them as best I can.The top front line that is going horizontal is 10 cm, the bottom line on the right side is 15cm, and the line on the front right that is going vertical is 12cm.
Here is the pic or the rectangular prism (above)
Next is the net of a rectangular prism

the measurements of this are the very top line is 10 cm, the bottom line on one of the arms is 15cm, and the side of the arm and head is 12cm.
The formulas for finding the surface are of the rectangular prism are:

Surface area is the sum of the areas of all the faces of a 3-D object.
Surface Area = A1 + A2 + A3 + A4 + A5 + A6,
where A1 represents the area of rectangle 1, A2
represents the area of rectangle 2, etc.

So first I have to find the area:

120=a for a1, a2, a3, and a4

TSA=120+12o+120+120+180+180

Surface area = (3 × area of rectangle) + (2 × area of triangle)
= (1 × 300) + (2 × 120) + (2 x 500)
= 300 + 240 + 1000

In the past is about Surface area lxw in handing writing for the rectangular prism. For the Triangular prism lxw for the rectangles and bxh/2 for the triangles.

Let me show you how we did it.

if I did a rectangular prism so like, but first we do the formula.

l x w=A

then lxw= #

#x2=

#x2= add them all up and you get the surface area Triangle l x w= b x h/2

By the time you got the answer add them up. Then you add the triangles and get the TSA ( TOTAL SURFACE AREA)

Oh.. one more Cylinder is a 3-dimensional circle

there is radius, circumference and diameter.

To calculate the surface area of a Rectangular Prism you simply calculate the area of 3 sides and add 2 of each of the answers.

Side 1 Side 2 Side 3

L × W = A L × W= A L × W = A

4 × 3 = A 3 × 6 = A 4 × 6 = A

12cm* = A 18cm* = A 24cm* = A

SA = 12cm*+12cm*+18cm*+18cm*

+24cm*+24cm*

SA = 108cm*

Triangular Prism

To calculate the area of a Triangular Prism you calculate the area of the triangle and the 3 rectangles and add it all together.

Triangular Side Rectangular Side 1 Rectangular Side 2

(b × h) ÷ 2 = A L × W = A L × W = A

(2 × 2) ÷ 2 = A 5 × 3 = A 5 × 2 = A

2cm* = A 15cm* = A 10cm* = A

SA = 2cm*+2cm*+15cm*+15cm*+10cm*

= 44cm*

Cylinders

Calculating the surface area of a Cylinder is by far the easiest as it can be done in only 2 formulas.

r = d ÷ 2 SA = 2 × (Pi × r*) + (Pi × d × h)

r = 4 ÷ 2 = 2 × (3.14 × 2*) + (3.14 × 4 × 7)

r = 2 = 200.96cm*

In my post I will show you how to find the total surface area of a right triagular prim, a rectangular prism, and a cylinder.

Starting with the Triangular prism:

b=2.3m
h=1.4m

To find the the area of the triangles, you use the formula: bxh/2

bxh/2=A

2.3x1.4/2=A

3.2m2=A

The rectangles in this shape all have different areas.

In this shape there are three rectangles.

The formula that you use to find the area of rectangles is LxW=A.

This the first rectangle.

To find the total surface are, you add up the area of each shape:

TSA=3.2m+1.61m+0.98+1.87+3.2m

TSA=10.86 m squared

This is how you find the total surface area of a rectangular prism:

To find the total surface area of a rectangular prism, you have to find the area of three sides of the prism; the top, the side, and the front views.

The top view is equal to the bottom of the prism.

The front view is the same as the back.

To find the total surface area, you have to add up the area of each side.

TSA=21+21+43.05+45.05+73.8+73.8

TSA=275.7cm squared

There are two ways to find the total surface area of a cylinder:

Radius=10cm

Height=22cm

The first way of finding the total surface area of a cylinder is using the following formula:

The second way of finding the total surface area of a cylinder:

First you have to find the circumference of the circle. In this question you are given the radius so you have to find the diameter using this formula: rx2=d.

Then you multiply the diameter by pi to get the circumference.

The circumference of the circle is the rectangle's length. So to find the area of the rectangle, you use the formula LxW=A.

To find the area of a circle, you use the formula pi mulitipiled by r squared.

To find the total surface area of a cylinder, you add up the areas of the circles and the rectangle.

To find the surface area of this rectangular prism or any, you need the find the area of each face and add up all of the areas. To find the area of a rectangle you need to use the formula length x width.

Rectangular Prism

I made this in Microsoft paint, so I gave it fake measurements if thats alright.

Net of Rectangular Prism also made in Microsoft Paint (tell me if somethings wrong because I always mess up the nets)

The formula you use to calculate the surface area of a rectangular prism is lxw (length x width). We will do this with all faces to get the area of each face, then add them together, which should give us the surface area.

5cm x 10cm = 50 cm2

5cm x 17cm = 85 cm2

10cm x 17cm = 170 cm2

50cm2+85cm2+170cm2 = 305 cm2

Triangular Prism

The formula to calculate the surface area of a Triangular Prism is bxh÷2 (BASE X HEIGHT ÷ 2)

And heres the answer:

Rectangle = lxw

Rectangle = 2cm x 20cm

Triangle = 2cm x 5cm ÷ 2cm

Triangle = 5cm2

40cm2+5cm2 = 45cm2

Please tell me if I made a mistake, because I usually mess up with Triangular Prism's.

Now last but not least... the cylinder (-.-)

Now we have the diameter, but we need to find the radius.

r = d÷2

r = 5 ÷ 2

r = 2.5cm

Now lets find the area of both circle(s)

A = pi x r x r

A = 3.14 x 2.5cm x 2.5cm

A = 19.625cm2 x 2 = 39.25cm2 (AREA OF BOTH CIRCLES)

Area of the Rectangle

A = lxw

A = (pi x d) x w

A = 3.14 x 5cm x 15cm

A = 235.50cm2

39.25cm2 + 235.50cm2 = 274.75cm2

The formula I would use is the finding the area of the top, bottom, side faces and find their area then multiply by two to get the other side. Once I have all six faces, I add all of them up to find the surface area of a rectangular prism.
